Last Updated: Thursday, 20 August 2009
|
Cyril Gray Tournament (Three pairs, each individual over 50 years old), 25th- 27th June 2009.
Barry Lorkin writes, "The team, Robin Anderton, Robin Beckwith, Jim Crosbie, Martin Lamb, Barry Lorkin, Michael Spencer, and Peter Watts lost to Chigwell 2-1 in the 1st round.
In the Plate we had an excellent run, beating Ampleforth 2-1 in the 1st round, and Trent 2½ - ½ in the 2nd round, before losing very narrowly in the semi-final to Berkhamsted, 2-1, this deciding match being lost on the 19th hole".

| Porter's Golfing Heroes Take a 5-2 Lead Over Old Ipswichians |
Last Updated: Tuesday, 16 June 2009

Peter Howard-Dobson (R 65-69) reports: The last time I wrote about the series of informal golf matches between teams led by Norman Porter (Hon Sec SOF) and Karl Daniels (Chairman of Governors, Ipswich School) was in June 2006 when the OF side pulled-off a stunning victory to level the new series two-all.
Since then, winning has become a bit of a habit for Porter's team - not wishing to be outshone, perhaps, by those pesky shooters! Anyway, suffice it to say that, three years on, the OFs beat the OIs 4 1/2 to 1 1/2 at Woodbridge on Monday 15th June, to take a magnificent 5-2 lead.

David Turnbull, OFGS Hon Secretary, reports:
The OFGS Spring Meeting was once again held in fine, sunny weather at The Warren Golf Club near Maldon on Tuesday, 19th May. Unfortunately, for the first time in many years, there was a disappointing turn out from players of all abilities. The sixteen who did play had a most enjoyable day.

| Grafton Morrish Tournament |
Last Updated: Thursday, 14 May 2009
|
The first team played at Knole Park GC in the South East regional qualifying round on Saturday 9th May. Hopes of qualifying for the finals were high following the recent fine run in the Halford Hewitt Plate, but the absence of one or two of our stronger players weakened the team and we were unsuccessful, finishing some way down the field. Our playing partners, Sevenoaks School (local knowledge?), did qualify and we wish them every success in the finals. Playing scratch foursomes off the very back tees on a testing course, even in pleasant sunny conditions, is always very demanding.

| OFGS Autumn 2008 Meeting Report |
Last Updated: Tuesday, 16 September 2008
|
The OFGS Autumn Meeting was held at Aldeburgh GC on Friday 12th September. It was attended by 22 OF’s who battled bravely through the wettest morning’s golf many could remember at an OFGS meeting. After a hot shower and a well earned drink and lunch, and with the rain finally relenting, most of the bedraggled survivors played 9 holes foursomes in the afternoon before retiring to the bar for another well earned drink and prize giving. Special mention should be made of Roger Wharton, a new member this year to both the OFGS and Aldeburgh GC, who had the best score of day with 40 points, best scratch score and best combined total for the Spring and Autumn Meetings.
