OF Northern Gathering |
Last Updated: Friday, 29 August 2014
|
Douglas Thompson writes : OFs and their spouses had lunch together at The Royal Scots Club in Edinburgh for the biennial Northern Gathering. The Royal Scots again did us proud. The private room was ideal, the food excellent, the wine flowed and even the president’s speech was good. After the convivial lunch most went on to Festival shows and the Tattoo. The only disappointment being that yet again the Gathering failed to attract a female OF. Perhaps this can be corrected in 2016. OFs attending were Michael Thomson, Jim Butchart, Norman Porter, James Rudddock-Broyd, Douglas Thomson, Simon Dougherty, Trevor Trevethick, Richard Sayer, John Vincent and Ian McLeish.

Frambag at the Edinburgh Fringe |
Last Updated: Friday, 29 August 2014
|
Douglas Thompson writes : Six OFs and wives filled the front row at Frambag‘s production of Hamlet at the Edinburgh Fringe. The College’s theatrical group enthralled and surprised the capacity audience with scenes that included water torture and selfies on mobile phones along with energetic choreography on a relatively small stage. It is difficult to know what Shakespeare would have thought of the performance but the rapturous applause at the end indicated the audience certainly enjoyed it! Those attending were joined by more OFs on the following day when the OF Northern Gathering was held at the Royal Scots Club.

|
Nigel Burnip (S 58-65), London Supper Secretary, writes:
I am pleased to report that, despite the arctic weather forecast, we had an excellent supper evening attended by 35 OFs and guests. We met in the Victoria bar, followed by supper in the well-appointed Presidents room. After dinner our guest, Martin Myers-Allen, Headmaster of Brandeston Hall, informed us of developments which enabled the school to continue to grow and occupy a prime position amongst the Prep Schools of East Anglia.

Suffolk Supper Report - 2012 |
Last Updated: Friday, 28 September 2012
|
The supper this year followed a similar format to last. It differed in that the meal, instead of being finger food, was a choice of three self -service hot dishes with vegetables and/or rice followed by a plate of little puddings. This went down very well with all who participated. Though there wasn't much food left over, everyone had as much as they wanted, even sampling two or three of the dishes, and going back for second helpings.
Just before the meal the President presented the Headmaster with a cheque for £100,000 as the Society’s initial contribution towards the Capital projects to mark the 150th Anniversary of the founding of the College, which will take place in 2015. Paul Taylor suitably responded in thanking the Society and its members for their generosity.

Suffolk Supper (and The Hound of the Baskervilles) |
Last Updated: Monday, 6 August 2012
|
Suffolk Supper 2012 - Saturday 15th September.
Update 12th September: This event is now sold-out - A great thing to be able to report, but sorry if you were hoping to make a late reservation and are now disappointed.
Last year’s Suffolk Supper – a tribute to Tony Lawrence – marked a departure from traditional sit-down suppers. The buffet format was hailed as a considerable success, so we have decided to repeat that format this year. Tables will be set up, so there will be no need to wander around precariously, performing an impossible balancing act with food, cutlery and glass, while eating and talking at the same time. So come along prepared to mix and mingle, rather than be fixed at one particular table.
One of the problems of having a Council Meeting at 5.30pm is that guests are left to their own devices while the meeting is taking place. The College has normally kindly provided refreshments during this time, but that hardly fills the space. This year, however, we are able to offer OFs and their guests alternative fare in the Headmaster Porter Theatre. Dan Wood, Events Manager, has secured the services of a professional theatre company which will be putting on a performance of “The Hound of the Baskervilles” during this time. (The Play starts at 5.15pm).

London Supper Report - 3 July 2012 |
Last Updated: Sunday, 15 July 2012
|
Twenty-one people attended the London Supper, which was held at The Farmers Club, Whitehall Court on Tuesday, 3rd July, 2012. The numbers were down in comparison to the January Supper.
This Supper clashed with the final week of the Summer Term so that there was no representation from the College. Those who attended enjoyed a most pleasant evening.
The President, Simon Dougherty, who was the only speaker, spoke for the S.O.F. and the College. On S.O.F. matters he reported that he had attended 11 Regional Suppers so far during his Presidency and that the “Maulden” Book (Into the 3rd Millennium) would very soon be available to be ordered via the Internet. He was very pleased to confirm Richard Sayer as President Designate and delighted to welcome 3 Moreau Scholars at the Council Meeting and Supper.
