| Sir Pat's Family To Give His Banner & Crest to College Chapel |
Last Updated: Wednesday, 12 May 2010
|
Until recently, Sir Patrick Howard-Dobson's banner and crest (part of the regalia of a Knight Grand Cross of the Order of the Bath) have been installed, with those of some thirty others of the most senior Knights and Dames Grand Cross of the order, in the King Henry VII Lady-chapel of Westminster Abbey. Following his death, these items have been returned to the family.
As the photograph shows, the design of the banner (and of Sir Pat's coat of arms as a whole), strongly reflects Framlingham College, which he held in huge affection. "It was this", says Peter Howard-Dobson, "which inspired my brother, sister, and me to offer the banner and crest to the School, and in particular to the Chapel." - an offer which the Headmaster, Paul Taylor, was only too pleased to accept.
The gift will formally be made by Sir Pat's family as part of a whole-school Service of Dedication to be held in the Chapel at 10.30am on Saturday 19th June, which Old Framlinghamians, past staff, friends and colleagues will be most welcome to attend. The service will be followed by a reception to be held in Pauls Court. In order to help with catering arrangements, those wishing to attend are asked to phone or email Karen Alcock on 01728 727276 or E-mail Karen.

| Young OF Golfers Shine in British University Golf Championship |
Last Updated: Sunday, 25 April 2010
|
Patrick Spraggs (G 04-09) and John Wybar (K 92-06) put up a terrific performance in the British Universities Golf Championship at Dundonald, near Troon, over the 14th to 17th April. Coming on top of the R&A Foundation Scholars' Tournament, which Patrick won and in which John came just a little further down the field, quickly followed by them both playing for the OFGS team in the Halford Hewitt competition, the two players have had plenty to challenge them over the last few weeks.
The field for the British University Golf Championship is restricted to the top 60 golfers at British Universities, following various qualifying tournaments played through the 2009/10 autumn/winter season.

| James Miller - former Headmaster (1989-1994) |
Last Updated: Friday, 22 January 2010
|
OFs will be sad to hear news of James Miller, former Headmaster (1989-1994) Gwen Randall’s predecessor, and Honorary OF. He had been suffering with back problems which led to his being admitted to hospital, in the spinal unit at Oswestry. He had surgery on his spine, but the outcome was such that he has been told that he will never walk again.
James had only recently retired from The Royal Grammar School, Newcastle and moved to their home: Orchard Cottage, Eardisland, Leominster, Herefordshire HR6 9BJ. The house will have to be adapted to cope with the new situation.
