"Into the Third Millennium" - Sales going well

We announced the ‘print-on-demand’ launch of John Maulden’s book “Into the Third Millennium” in late July (read the original story here). Since then, sales have been going well, and fulfilment of orders by Blurb.com has been prompt and efficient. If you haven’t already ordered your copy, click this link to go straight to the book’s order page, where payment can be by credit card or PayPal (the retail price is £8.99 plus P&P).

The book is an enjoyable read for all Framlinghamians, but particularly for those who were at the College between 1975 and 2000. It provides, among other things, a comprehensive index of 500 named individuals – and you never know, you might be among them!

A permanent link to the book’s order page will be maintained under the Publications menu of this website.

The Colditz Cock - New Channel 4 Programme

Followers of the website may recall an article, back in July 2008, about the Colditz Cock, and the part that Bill Goldfinch (26-32) played in the construction of this secret glider, which he and others built in a concealed attic of Colditz Castle.

A new film has been made, this time on location at Colditz Castle, following the reconstruction of the glider from the original plans and materials, culminating in a flight attempt using the method planned by Bill and his fellow prisoners - but will it work?

The programme, "Escape From Colditz", goes out tonight (13th August 2012) at 9.00pm, but it should be available on 4oD for a while afterwards. You can read about it the programme Here.

“Three Heroes” tour of Northern France and Belgium – Feb 2014

Plans are afoot to conduct a unique tour of Northern France and Belgium, in February 2014, to commemorate the actions of three military heroes of Framlingham College, and James Ruddock-Broyd (G46-52), Hon. Tour Promoter, is keen to hear from people who might be interested in joining it. He writes:

“The 18th February 2014, marks the 70th anniversary of Operation Jericho, the famous raid on Amiens Prison led by Group Captain Percy Pickard (G 26-32). In the course of the raid, Pickard was shot down and killed. Before his early death, Pickard won no fewer than three Distinguished Service Orders.

UPDATE: Charlie Vaughan-Griffith nears end of cycle marathon in Dad's memory

Charlie Vaughan-Griffith reports on 27 September 2012:

I've been on the road now for 54 days in my journey to cycle to San Feliu de Guixols in memory of my father, Richard Vaughan-Griffith. We reached San Feliu yesterday (26 Sept), where 50 years ago, my father finished his own bike ride, with five friends from Framlingham.

It has been an incredible journey. My aim was simple. I wanted to complete a journey in memory of my father, and help raise valuable funds for the hospice that cared for him so well and also to coincide with an organised race for Help for Heroes I had entered before my father got ill.
On that note, if people would like to support the hospice that desperately needs the help to keep proving its wonderful support to cancer victims, the details are here:

And if people would like to follow our progress as we move to Gibraltar, the blog is:

Work Experience for College Students

Old Framlinghamian Gallery
The College is keen to use its valuable links in the OF community to provide work experience for current pupils. As you know, work experience is a hugely important part of young people’s preparation for their futures and we know there is a rich and diverse variety of expertise in the OF body.

This year, Thursday 21st to Thursday 28th June has been allocated as a period of work experience for Year 11s after their exams. If you are able to offer a place to a pupil for all or part of that week, you can register your interest by following this link:
http://www.framcollege.co.uk/workexperience.

If you are unable to offer anything for that week, but could provide places at other times, the College would still like to hear from you. If that is the case, you can again follow the link above, or you can simply email the Head of Careers, ccranmer@framcollege.co.uk.
