UPDATE: Dinner cancelled due to low numbers
Lewis Myers-Allen (R2007-2012) writes: There will be many Old Framlinghamians out there who have a taste for adventure and travel. They will include those who have taken part in one or more of the College’s ‘Journeys of Self-Discovery’ and those who have enjoyed adventures of their own. Since 1997 more than 250 expeditioners have taken part in one of the College’s ‘Journeys of Self-Discovery’ to far-flung reaches of the world, and I think 2014 is possibly the time for any like-minded Old Framlinghamian with a passion for travel to meet under the same roof to share tales, meet old friends, make new friends, and learn about an exciting Old Framlinghamians’ expedition. In 2015, I am organising this, with a bit of help from my father, who founded the expedition ethos at Framlingham.

| OF Hockey - Pre-season matches - Jan 5th 2014 |

On Sunday 5th January the OFs brought two teams to play a triangular tournament against the Framlingham College 1st XI pre-season squad. An excellent afternoons hockey was played in a brilliant spirit, with the highlight being the 3-3 draw between the OF U21s and the OFs.

| OF Musical News - Freya Roy releases 2nd album |

On Friday the East Anglian Daily Times published an article and picture on Freya Roy (M2010-12) to mark the release of her second self-recorded album. The photography has been taken by her older sister Poppy Roy (M2009-11) who studied photography A-Level at the College.

| SOCIETY OF OLD FRAMLINGHAMIANS ANNUAL DINNER – 29 MARCH 2014 |

The Society of Old Framlinghamians Annual Dinner will take place on Saturday 29 March 2014 at Framlingham College. Prior to the dinner, the Society will hold its Annual General Meeting which will take place in the Library at 6.15pm. The Notice calling this meeting, and the Minutes of last year's AGM, can be viewed and downloaded from the Publications section of this website - you need to be logged-in to access this page). While this is being held, partners and guests will be able to relax in the Dining Room Annex where Coffee, Tea and a Bar will be available.
The recently retired David Barker (and his wife, Susan), will be joining us as special guests, and we hope that many of those who were taught or coached by David will wish to come and wish him well in retirement, as well to pay tribute to his long service at the College.

Kim Pope (M2004-09) and Nigel Burnip (S58-69) have been selected for the North London Rifle Club team, travelling to New Mexico in September 2014. For a nice change we are able to illustrate a rifle story without a picture of a Stradbroke OF!

| Ben Hayes wins prestigious architectural award |

Ben Hayes (R96-06), after 7 years of architectural qualification, has been awarded the prestigious RIBA Silver Medal prize at a ceremony on 4 December 2013. It is awarded to postgraduate students of architecture worldwide and Ben won this for his project Kizhi Island, which proposes the reconstruction of 250 wooden Orthodox churches on a six-kilometre-wide isle in northern Russia.
You can read more here and his work is on exhibition at RIBA in Portland Place for two months, along with a number of the other projects entered.
Ben says “I feel very lucky I made the right choice of career path, when leaving Framlingham. I have been in London for most of it, but I have also worked in China for one and a half years, which was a truly amazing experience. Currently, I have been working at Niall McLaughlin Architects for 3 months now and I am really enjoying it.”

Douglas Thomson (K53-61) writes : The lunch menu for OF Northern Gathering will be available around January 2014. It is only then that I shall be asking OF’s to start firming up on their attendance. HOWEVER, you need now to act if you are planning to attend the Edinburgh Tattoo. And fairly fast too. Firstly do not be fooled into using fake websites. Sadly there are still some about and they are very convincing. You need http://www.edintattoo.co.uk/tickets/ and the first opportunity to buy tickets online is from 10.00am on 2nd December 2013, so get ready!!
Of course, there is no need to attend the Tattoo. The Edinburgh Festival offers an amazing range of entertainment and if the Royal Scots Club does us as well as last time (which I am sure they will) the lunch on its own is well worth attending. Put the date in your new 2014 diary now – 16 August 2014 and I look forward to hearing you can come - seeing you there.

| OF Selected for Rugby U20s |

The England under 20 squad for the forth coming 6 nations rugby tournament has recently been announced and we are delighted to say that one of those selected is OF flanker Will Owen (G2006-11). Will played for England under 18 this summer. We wish him all the best.
