Craig Harold Whipps
1984-2011
He died tragically in a farming accident at Stapleford Tawney, Essex on July 15th 2011, aged 27. Coming from a Norfolk dairy farming family, Craig attended Town Close School in Norwich before coming to Framlingham in 1997.
Martin Myers-Allen, his Housemaster in Garrett, writes, ' I remember Craig well and with much affection. He was a rugged, fun-loving character with a roguish glint in his eye. He was great company around Garrett and would readily engage in conversation, especially about sport. Craig was a solid games player and approached School and House matches with an earnest, determined, no nonsense manner. His cheerful disposition was quietly inspiring. In my humble opinion he was the epitome of what the School stood for, because he was a genuine well-rounded character who tried his best at all that he did and left us with a huge zest for life. He was the sort of chap you would enjoy a pint and a chat with ! I am so sorry that time was cut short.’
Craig went on to study at Writtle Agriculture College. He was an accomplished hockey, cricket and rugby player and was held in high esteem as a member of Harleston Magpies Hockey Club. A packed church at his funeral in Denton contained a high representation of hockey and farming friends and colleagues.
Craig leaves a wife, Vicky, also an OF, and a daughter Bethany, while Vicky expects their second child in the early Spring. Craig was a grandson-in-law of John Maulden. We offer our sincere condolences to the whole family at this untimely and tragic accident.
