John Richard Mann
1958-2009
Upon leaving school in 1976 John studied agriculture at Writtle College at Chelmsford and then returned to the family farms at Framlingham. Farming and the countryside was his great love and in particular the shooting aspect. Like most shooting men he loved the wildlife and conservation and took great pleasure from working his dogs in a natural environment. He made many videos of local shoots and of the characters involved with them.
When he and Jenny were married, their first enterprise, and a major one, was the restoration of Fidlers Hall at Framlingham. They transformed it from a derelict house where cattle had fallen through the ceiling into the beautiful family home it is today.
Following the death of his father in January 2000, he took over the management of the farm, but low wheat prices and changing times followed in farming and John decided to let the farm while he went to work at Felixstowe docks.
As well as the social life which went with his first love of shooting John was also a keen member of the Old Framlinghamian’s Lodge.
He leaves two children, Richard and Rachel.
