Paul Anthony DAY (G72-76)
1958 – 2007
Paul was born to a farming family in Christchurch near Wisbech , Cambridgeshire. He grew up on the farm and attended Glebe House School, Hunstanton before going on to Framlingham.
During his time at Framlingham he excelled on the sports field, cricket being the sport at which he showed most talent. He was the first pupil to go into the 1st XI in his first year at school.
Upon leaving school he returned to the family farm to work with his father and brother and found time to indulge his passion for speed. With neither tractors nor even his car satisfying this passion he loved to ride his motorbike.
He played first team hockey for Wisbech until his daughter Lucy was born in November 1985, he and Tracy having married in October 1984. Matthew was born in September 1988. Paul continued to play cricket for Upwell and was club chairman until the last year of his life.
He was proud that Matthew followed his sporting footsteps and supported him ardently, also being thrilled when Lucy became a member of Virgin Atlantic aircrew. He particularly enjoyed flying to New York with her and hearing of all her adventures.
Paul had been ill for a year with Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma and died peacefully at home with his family and black spaniel, Murphy.
