John David THORP
1923–2006
David Brook:
The Reverend David Thorp was born on 29th December 1923 and died in Australia on 29th August 2006. David joined the Army soon after leaving Framlingham. He was commissioned in the 17th Dogra Regiment Indian Army, in which he served and fought in Burma. In a letter written to me from S.E.A.C. in 1945, David wrote that, apart from mud, water and leeches, he had enjoyed action in his Brigade, which had killed 633 Japanese in less than two weeks, with very few losses to themselves.
David married his first wife, Noreen, in 1954. She died in 1971, following the move to Australia after his ordination in 1958. David’s first two appointments in the church in Australia were metropolitan, followed by Beverley, a farming community.
David is survived by his second wife, Rosemary, sons John and Simon, and daughter, Nicolette.
