Fiona Birch and a group of university friends are raising funds for an African charity by climbing Mount Kilimanjaro this September. She writes:
I left the College last June, after fourteen years at Brandeston and Framlingham, and I’m now studying Biological Sciences at the University of Exeter.
I love travel and adventure, largely fuelled by the completion of my Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award, and a school expedition to the rainforests of Borneo in 2011. However, I also care hugely about the disparity that exists throughout our World. So when I was presented with the opportunity to climb Mount Kilimanjaro, and combine this with raising money to help improve the lives of East African communities, I didn’t give it a second thought.
Climbing Mount Kilimanjaro is a huge challenge, demanding both physical stamina and mental endurance. At sunrise on 3rd September 2013, I and ten colleagues from the University of Exeter hope to reach the summit, and simultaneously raise funds for the charity ‘Dig Deep’.
