| Were you in Moreau in 1964? |
Last Updated: Monday, 24 February 2014
|
UPDATE: Jane Easey (V87-89), Old Framlinghamian Co-ordinator, has recently sent out this invitation
from Paul Taylor, Headmaster of Framlingham College, to all known OF signatories to the June 1964 bottle of port, laid down by Bob Gillett for opening 50 years later. The bottle will be opened on Speech Day on 4th of July 2014. She says “We do hope you can make it and that you will be able to join us for lunch and a tour of the College beforehand. Please pass the invitation on to anyone you know that signed the bottle in 1964 but has not updated us with their current details.”
ORIGINAL MESSAGE I am trying to track down a group of very important OFs so that they can be invited back to the College to celebrate an Anniversary Event. In the Headmaster’s Office there is a bottle of port laid down almost 50 years ago, in June 1964, by Bob Gillett (Housemaster) and the students of Moreau House. The bottle is signed by those 1964 students, and there were instructions that the bottle was to be opened 50 years later on the occasion of the College’s 150th. That time is now imminent, and it is hoped that there will be a grand ceremonial opening of the bottle with as many of the 1964 students and staff present as can be assembled.
You can read a more detailed letter and photos by clicking here or email me. The attached letter shows in red those OFs we are particular keen to get in touch with as we currently have no up to date contact details.

| Amiens Prison Raid - 70th Anniversary at RAF Hunsdon |
Last Updated: Monday, 24 February 2014
|
|
Following 70th anniversary service and presentation of painting at the Collge, there was another service at RAF Hunsdon to mark 70th anniversary of the raid on Amiens jail led by Group Captain Percy Pickard DSO** DFC (G26-32). RAF Hunsdon is where Pickard took off from on 18 February 1944 on that fateful trip. Bill Collard (S55-58) and Andrew Payn attended the service on Sunday 16 February 2014 to represent the SOF and College.
You can read Bill’s report and see a couple of photos by clicking here
.
On 70th anniversary of the raid, The Times published this story
about a new book that suggests a very contrary view on the objective/purpose of the raid to those normally accepted as the reason.

| Proposed New SOF Rules & Way Forward Agreement |
Last Updated: Friday, 21 February 2014
|
|
Richard Sayer, SOF President writes : On March 29th at the AGM of the Society, we shall vote on the proposition that we should as of January 1st 2015 introduce New Rules.
Council agreed at its October meeting to the Society entering into a joint venture agreement with the College, known as the Way Forward Agreement (“WFA”). That agreement makes changes to the way in which the Society will operate once it comes into effect on January 1st 2015 – for example by doing away with Life Membership and altering the way in which we finance our operating costs. You can read more details on this very significant agreement here
. Council further agreed in October to draft new Rules to reflect those changes, and to approve them at our March 29 AGM, when we will also formally ratify the WFA.
I am now attaching a copy of the draft new SOF Rules
for your perusal and, I hope, approval.
The draft is the product of the joint efforts of many people, whose great help I wish to acknowledge: including Hon.Secretary Norman Porter, IPP Simon Dougherty, Hetta Rogers, David Mallett, Richard Overend, Chris Essex and Peter Howard-Dobson. The draft has now been approved, without amendment, by Council.
It is important that all OFs have an opportunity to view the new Rules and to raise any concerns they may have. I shall be grateful if within the next 28 days you will let me know if you are unhappy with any of the proposed changes. Copies of the existing 2010 Rules are also available on the SOF website. I hope that many of you will attend the AGM (and the dinner that evening) to support this motion.

| 100 year old postcards come to light |
Last Updated: Wednesday, 5 February 2014
|
FURTHER UPDATE : John has also supplied fascinating front and back pictures of 1935 Churchman cigarette packet featuring OF tie! These have been added to gallery using the link below.
UPDATE : John Ineson (G43-50) saw the previous article that Daniel Streeter had sent in some postcards and has now sent in some additional one’s from the same period around 100 years ago. If you are a registered member please click here to see the full set. There is for example an amazing postcard image from 1906 showing a very overgrown castle, before English Heritage came along!
Original story : Daniel Streeter (R84-89) some time ago kindly sent us a series of postcards images of the College around 1910/20s, with the coloured Castle card postmarked 1906. At the time he sent them, the Gallery on the website was being redeveloped but it is now fully up and running. The postcards offer a fascinating insight into what life was like at the College around 100 years.
If any OFs have other postcards or views on exactly when some of these images were taken, we’d very much like to hear from you. Please e-mail admin@oldframlinghamian.com.
