A REMINDER THAT THE CLOSING DATE FOR APPLICATIONS IS MONDAY 12 MARCH 2018

 

Simon Dougherty writes: The Society of Old Framlinghamians Annual Dinner will be held on Saturday 24 March 2018 at the Royal Air Force Club, 128 Piccadilly, London W1J 7PY and an invitation is extended to all members of the Society - together with their partners and guests - to attend this prestigious event. 

Prior to the dinner, the Society will hold its Annual General Meeting in the Ballroom (on the first floor of the Royal Air Force Club) at 6.15pm. While it is being held, partners and guests will be able to relax in the ground floor Churchill Bar which will be open from 6.00pm.  Pre-dinner drinks will be served in the Churchill Bar from 7 o’clock, with dinner being served in the first floor Ballroom at 7.30pm. Dress is Black Tie or equivalent. 

The cost of the dinner is £60 per head including half a bottle of wine.  We are subsidising younger OFs – so the first 20 OFs aged under 30 years on 24 March 2018, to apply and pay for places, will be charged only £30 – this is a remarkable offer!  After the meal. we have arranged a bar extension in the Churchill Bar up to midnight.

Two WWII Veterans Meet Share Last Updated: Sunday, 31 December 2017

James Ruddock Broyd (G46-52) writes : By chance I spotted two WWII Veterans standing not far from each other at the Fowler Pavilion opening on 21 October 2017 and I put them together in what seems was a first meeting . On the left is Ken Mayhew  (R29-34) who reached age 100 earlier in the year and landed on Sword Beach on the first day of the Normandy Landings on 6 June 1944 with the Suffolk Regiment and on the right is David Brook (S36-40) age 94 who was a Glider Pilot on the main push over the Rhine in Operation Varsity  on 24 March 1945 and edited the GPRA Eagle magazine for 30  years.



"KEEP THE DATE" - Pre 1970s Reunion Share Last Updated: Saturday, 23 December 2017

Richard Sayer writes : Over the last few years, with the huge support and encouragement of the Headmaster and the College, there have been regular reunions of specific decade year groups. The Noughties, the Nineties, the Eighties, the Seventies have all had theirs, and now it is the turn of the Pre 70s - being perhaps more the decayed rather than a decade.

So, all those who left the College in July 1969 or earlier are to be invited, together with their partners, by the College to a reunion lunch (deemed better suited to this age group than a ball or a dinner!) on Saturday 30th June 2018. There will be a large marquee on The Back.

Please note that Brandeston Hall (now officially the Framlingham College Prep School) celebrates its 70th anniversary the day before, Friday 29th June 2018, with a tea party, and the weekend of 30 June/1st July is the “regular” annual OF weekend, when cricket and hockey matches etc are played. There are a number of good and inexpensive B and Bs in the locality so we hope that people will make a weekend of it.

Congratulations to OF Will Brett (R12-16) Share Last Updated: Wednesday, 13 December 2017

Congratulations to OF Will Brett (R12-16) who has completed his training to become a Marine and has been awarded an Academic Award at the Green Beret Ceremony for his application and knowledge of Military History and Tactics.

His Formal Passing Out Parade was on Friday 1st of December at CTCRM Lympstone and was quite a day!  Will's father wrote, "It has been a very tough road for Will and we are beyond proud of what he has achieved.  Along the way, he received a special award for outstanding achievement in the physical pass out tests".

Will is looking forward to serving with the Marines and has been posted to 40 Commando.  Very well done Will Brett, this is an amazing achievement!

Chris Essex (K69-75) writes: The 2017 Framlinghamian will be out shortly and will contain a heavily edited version of all the news and photos I have received over the last year from OFs around the world.  For your Christmas reading I have published the full version of the Overseas Bag for 2017 in the People section of the website. This full edition runs to a bumper 59 pages distilled from over 500 emails received/sent over the last year and includes at the end coverage of the funeral of our 10th oldest OF Peter Simpson (K32-40) in Queensland Australia.

The photo featured in this news article shows Nigel Robinson (G64-74) and Terry Hurlock (R68-73) who recently completed a long distance cycle ride in France covering 1250km.  You can read more about this and other stories here .

I hope we will see an increased number of reunions being organised around the world in 2018.  As always I will help with mailing lists and publicity but can’t promise to be able to attend them all! If you are interested in helping/attending then please get in touch with me via email

Colin Wigg (G48-54) writes : Twenty nine diners enjoyed a very convivial evening together with an excellent three course Carvery and an entertaining after dinner speech by fellow OF Martin Pearse (K59-63), a dual international Captain at both Cricket and Squash. President John Ellerby enlightened everyone as to current SOF and College matters including the recent opening of the impressive Fowler Pavilion.

 Congratulations to the Old Framlinghamian team of Hugh Curle (Captain OFGS), John Wybar, Jonny Newton (Team Captain) and Matt Low who retained the Dick Watson Trophy over the weekend of the 14th and 15th October. The trophy is an alumni, inter-school foursome competition played at Aldeburgh Golf Club.

In print for over 100 years, The Framlinghamian is the ‘go-to’ publication for pupils and old-Framlinghamians, parents and prospective parents alike, and this year the College are offering suitable businesses fifteen pages of prime advertising space. The publication date of The Framlinghamian 2017 is mid December, but interested OFs need tio get in touch by 31 October.

Memorial Service for Jonathan Hulley (K2010-16) Share Last Updated: Tuesday, 17 October 2017

Jonathan Hulley (2010-16) died as a result of a tragic road accident on 1 October 2017 at the age of just 19. There will be a memorial service on Friday 27 October at the College at 3pm to celebrate his life.
