UPDATE : A wonderful ceremony was held in Copdock on 17 September 2017 to mark the centenary of his VC award. Village Recorder, Jennifer Jones, put together a wonderful day. The weather that day was a dramatic reminder of the far worse conditions which prevailed on the Menin Road to the north east of Ypres on Thursday 20th September 1917, as former Copdock resident Cpl William Henry Hewitt won the Victoria Cross during the third battle of Ypres, near Passchendaele.
You can see the programme, leaflet on his life and many pictures take on the day by looking at the Distinguished biography - click here.
