OFGS Spring Meeting Report: Royal Worlington, 8th May 2014
The OFGS Spring Meeting took place at Royal Worlington & Newmarket Golf Club on Thursday, 8th  May. Unfortunately, the weather conspired against us with heavy rain falling for most of the day. In spite of the poor conditions the scoring was excellent. The course, as always, was testing and in excellent condition. After a welcome hot shower everyone enjoyed a good lunch and were well looked after by the secretary and his staff.

This year we had a lower turnout than last year, with 22 members.  Hugh Curle, with an excellent score of 41 points, won the Captain’s Prize for the best overall score and Barry Hitchcock won the Minter Cup for the best scratch score of the day, 29 points.
The full results were as follows:-

Captain’s Prize
Hugh Curle
41
Minter Cup (scratch)
Barry Hitchcock
29 (40 on handicap)
2nd Div 1
Mike Schneidau
39
1st Div 1
Andrew Wright
38
2nd Div 2
Chris Milner-Moore
37

Because of the continuing bad weather it was decided to abandon the afternoon schedule of play and proceed with the Prize Giving and AGM immediately after lunch.

At the AGM Norman Porter was re-elected Captain of OFGS and Hugh Curle Vice-Captain, to take over from Norman next May for a two year term.  Richard Graves was re-elected Captain of OFGS First Team. Barry Lorkin agreed to look after the Cyril Gray team for one more year.  It was also agreed that, after five most enjoyable years at Worlington, our Spring Meeting would move next year to Frinton Golf Club and this would be held on Thursday, 7 May 2015.

Not to be outdone by the weather, four intrepid pairs did set out for a 9 hole foursomes competition after the AGM while the remainder made their way home in the rush hour traffic! The rain intensified during the afternoon, but Barry Hitchcock and Peter Howard-Dobson battled their way to victory with 19 points, one more than their nearest rivals.
