Cyril Gray 2012 - OF Golfers do well in the Plate
Golf Society
The Cyril Gray is a knockout tournament involving 3 pairs playing foursomes off scratch. All players must be over 50 years of age and the competition is held at Worplesdon Golf Club in Surrey.

We had two new members in the squad, Gavin Cowell and Mike Schneidau. The team was completed by Robin Anderton, Martin Lamb, Peter Watts and Roger Wharton.

In Round 1 we lost to Wrekin, last year’s winners, 2½ - ½, and they went on to win the tournament again this year, so we were up against very strong opponents.

We then played in the Plate, Michael Spencer replacing Mike Schneidau. We defeated City of London 2½ - ½ in the first round and Chigwell by 2 - 1 in the second round, before losing to Glenalmond in the semi-final by 2 - 1. Both the losing matches went down the 18th all square, and we were just unlucky. A very exciting match, and we were just one putt from being in the Plate final. It was a fine achievement by all our players, who enjoyed the competition.

L-R:  Martin Lamb, Mike Schneidau, Roger Wharton, Robin Anderton, Gavin Cowell and Peter Watts
