Golfers Go Down Fighting In Cyril Gray Tournament
Golf Society
The Cyril Gray is a knockout tournament involving three pairs playing foursomes off scratch.  All players must be over 50 years of age and the competition is held at Worplesdon Golf Club in Surrey.

Barry Lorkin reports that in this year's competition (24th to 26th June 2010) we were drawn against Ampleforth in the first round. Robin Anderton and Robin Beckwith lost 3 & 2, but our second pair, Michael Spencer and Martin Lamb, played very well and won on the last hole.

Unfortunately, our final pair also lost, so there we were in the Plate competition again.  It seems that Ampleforth had  discovered three  recruits who also play in their Halford Hewitt team – yes, ok, we're always looking for an excuse as to why we lost!

In the Plate, against Watsons, two pairs were all square standing on the last tee. Unfortunately our first pair, Robin Anderton and Barry Lorkin, lost the final hole and our second pair, Michael Spencer and Martin Lamb, halved.  Since the third pair had already lost their match, we went out 2½ - ½.
