Through research it had been established that the name of another OF was missing from the World War One War Memorial in the Chapel. The missing name was of Gordon Harmer Catchpole (1903-07) of the Canadian Field Artillery. The addition to the war memorial was dedicated by the College Chaplain Steve Waters, at the Remembrance Day service on Sunday 8 November 2009. Catchpole died on 11 May 1917 and is buried near Arras.
A full congregation included pupils present and past, parents, staff and Governors were present at the Remembrance Sunday service. The address was given by the Headmaster, Paul Taylor, and the wreath was laid on behalf of the Framlingham family by Cdt. RSM Peter Twentyman. Individual members of the congregation placed a poppy on the altar to remember each of those Framlinghamians who had given their life in conflict. Mrs Amanda Taylor placed a bouquet of lilies on the altar on behalf of Framlingham College.
The service was a very moving occasion and one that generated real pride in the College – not just in its past but also in the demeanour of present pupils.
The photos below shows the name of Catchpole and the additions made at last year’s remebrance service.
