Keith Handley (S 47-53) stood down from his role as Treasurer of the Society at this year's AGM. There was no permanent replacement available at the time of the meeting, and Richard Overend offered to fill the role on a temporary basis. However, at the Council meeting at Rivenhall on 23rd April, David Carr (S 67-74) volunteered for the post and was swiftly co-opted onto the Council. Keith Handley took on the role of Treasurer at short notice himself, following the untimely death of Tim Woodgate some six years ago. He stepped into action with great confidence, in spite of having no formal accountancy qualifications - just many years business experience with Cable & Wireless in a vast range of roles and countries. No one who knows him would be in the least surprised that he carried the whole thing off with apparent ease, and has passed on a clean set of books to David. His contribution to the Society was enthusiastically endorsed by the AGM.
David Carr (also a Stradbroke man) is pretty heavily involved in all sorts of things, quite apart from his Financial Planning Consultancy. He's Vice President of Chelmsford Cricket Club, Treasurer of the Gentlemen of Essex Cricket Club, and still finds time to play hockey for Chelmsford Veterans. You know what they say: "If you want a job to get done, ask a busy man" - thanks for volunteering, David.
